We're calling for a sustainable economic recovery

01 June 2020

As the UK Government begins to plan its economic recovery efforts following the coronavirus outbreak, we’re supporting a letter from business leaders to the Prime Minister calling for a sustainable, resilient recovery for the UK. Our CEO Keith Skeoch is a signatory to the letter.

The letter calls on the Government to ensure that its plans align with wider societal goals, to deliver a recovery that creates quality employment and builds a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient UK economy. In particular, it outlines the importance of aligning these efforts with the UK’s legislated target of net zero emissions by 2050. It highlights the benefits that doing so can bring to the economy and the UK’s ability to influence the global climate change agenda – a topic of added significance with the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, scheduled to take place in Glasgow in 2021.

The letter is a joint initiative from the UK Business Group Alliance for Net Zero. This is a group of business membership organisations, and among these organisations is Business In The Community – the Prince’s Responsible Business Network – of which our company is a member.

Following the publication of the letter, Keith Skeoch commented:

“We must strive to re-build in a way that benefits all in society, now and for future generations – creating economic growth that supports jobs and a cleaner recovery. As investors that consider ESG factors, we see it as vital in creating a resilient economy, managing long-term risks and creating real opportunities.”
